RETHINK CHURCH
25/25 Offering
Giving the Gift of Life—a Cow and Two Goats
Heifer International is a large operation depending on gifts large
and small to end hunger throughout the world.
In
addition to farm animals, Heifer educates poor farmers in effective
ways of irrigation, electrical development, sanitation, and animal
husbandry. Help is given those in desperate need from Africa to
Central America to western China.
This
month,
Mangum will be challenged to give
$750
in
“second
mile”
giving to purchase one cow and two goats
to
provide
families
in
one of these developing areas the means to feed and provide a
minimum of income for themselves.
Please give
$25
by the 25th
of January to meet this goal.
Renesting Project
Since January of 2011,
the
“Renesting
Project”
has
provided household goods and reclaimed furniture
to
those transitioning
from
homelessness in our community. Thus far,
160 homeless families/individuals
have been placed in homes through complementary agencies.
In Louisiana United Methodism’s
emphasis to work
“with
the poor,”
Mangum’s
Outreach Committee
has
called on our church family to respond.
Volunteers Needed:
Volunteers are needed
every Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at the
Renesting site on the corner of Texas and Youree Streets in Bossier
City.
Sorting of donated goods to prepare for someone moving from
homelessness to a home is time consuming. Can you help? Contact
Steve at the Church Office if you can.
Sacrament of the Lord’s
Supper—Homebound
We are beginning a new
ministry to those who are homebound and involuntarily away from
their church. A significant part of this ministry is serving the
sacrament of the Lord’s Supper to those in retirement
centers/nursing homes as well as those restricted to their own home.
At
most, this will take two hours of your month to serve those who tend
to be forgotten by others. You will bring joy to someone who may not
be feeling a whole lot of joy.
If this is one way you can serve our Lord,
please contact the minister or the church office.
Bible Study
The winter Bible study,
“James,
Mercy Triumphs”
by
Beth
Moore,
will begin Tuesday, January 17, at 1:00 p.m., for seven weeks.
You
may sign up on the pad on the desk in the hallway, or contact
Betty Howard
at
687-4361
if
you wish to enroll.
On-going Bible Study
Every Wednesday morning since 1989,
a
group of ladies have met here at Mangum for a mid-week Bible study.
It is a great time to get out and savor a period of enjoyment and
and learning with each other. The leader has been
Beverly Werntz.
Presently, the group is studying
“Unlikely People that God Has Used.”
Fellowship begins at 9:30 a.m. and the study is from 10 a.m. to 11
a.m.. You are welcome to join us. For more information, contact
Martie Powell.

Our Spiritual Director
Jan Moss
is
Mangum’s
Spiritual director and Spiritual Growth Co-ordinator.
She received certification in this field in 2008 and is trained in
helping others meet life’s spiritual challenges. Though not
counseling or even pastoral care, the work of the Spiritual Director
is to help others find understanding in their lives under the
direction of the Holy Spirit. The result is a closer relationship
with God after going through the struggles of searching, questioning
— “wilderness experiences” — to know one’s place in life.
Jan
is willing to spend as much time with you as necessary to help you
find ways to grow spiritually. Contact her at 635-1472. Her services
are free to anyone interested in such a spiritual endeavor.
Mangum Prayer Line
Our Prayer Line ministry is in place.
When an urgent need for prayer arises in the Mangum Church family,
please call
Jane Salter
(631-7871) and she will get the prayers going through the Prayer
Line.
Prayer Group meets Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.,
in the parlor.
